The Wolfhead brand sanding and polishing wheels from Grinding and Polishing Machinery Corporation (G&P) are ideal for woodworking and metalworking operations on all kinds of shaped surfaces. In principle, the Wolfhead wheel operates much like its predecessor, the Vonnegut brush-backed sanding head. Segmented abrasive strips, looped together and wound around a pin assembly, are stored in and extend from the wheel. The Wolfhead's cushioning bristles work these coated abrasive strips into and around corners, fluted and hollow surfaces, and small openings. Fresh abrasive is released as the segmented strips wear away, maintaining constant wheel diameter to achieve the most consistent finish available.
G&P advises that in typical operation, Wolfhead sanding wheels are relatively more aggressive than nylon wheels and less aggressive than flap wheels. Available in both 32-brush and 16-brush (hand-held tool) versions in a number of face widths, the Wolfhead wheel is easy to mount and load with long-wearing coated abrasive strips packaged in various grits, bonds, and shreds. And because it provides such consistent finishes on both flat and intricate surfaces, use of the Wolfhead wheel lowers rejection rates and reduces costs.
G&P Wolfhead wheels are typically used in woodworking for sealer sanding and to sand rough areas and raised grain on machined wood and other fibrous materials, in making moldings, carvings, chair legs and other furniture parts and assemblies. Metalworking operations rely on Wolfhead wheels for use in deburring sprockets and gears, satin surface finishing of aluminum extrusions and stainless-steel trim, blending to reduce part fatigue and improve finish, cleaning to remove surface contaminants and residues (film, dirt, rust, scale, weld slag, corrosion, varnish, paint, etc.), roughening for better bonding adhesion, pre-paint surface preparation, and other metal fabricating operations. And Wolfhead wheels are often used in fiberglass sanding, to produce marine and automotive parts, and helmets.
