The 3M 1870+ Respirator - A Game-Changer for Canada's Healthcare Industry

The COVID-19 pandemic has put unprecedented pressure on healthcare systems worldwide, and Canada has not been immune to the challenges it presents. One of the biggest hurdles faced by healthcare professionals is the availability of personal protective equipment (PPE).

However, the introduction of the 3M 1870 respirator has been a game-changer in the fight against the virus. This state-of-the-art respirator has quickly become a popular choice for healthcare workers across Canada due to its superior protection capabilities and comfortable fit. In this article, we'll explore the features of the 3M 1870 respirator, how it has revolutionized the healthcare industry, and why it's become a must-have for healthcare workers in Canada. Whether you're a healthcare professional or just curious about the latest innovations in PPE, you won't want to miss this informative and timely
piece.

How the 3M 1870 Respirator Works

The 3M 1870 respirator is a unique respiratory protective device that offers superior protection and comfort. It uses advanced electrostatically charged filter media to capture airborne particles, including those that may contain the COVID-19 virus.

The respirator is designed to fit securely on the face, ensuring a tight seal that prevents air from leaking in through the sides. It also has an adjustable noseclip that helps to reduce potential eyewear fogging. The respirator's flat-fold design makes it easy to store and transport, while its lightweight construction and soft inner lining provide maximum comfort during extended use.

Benefits of Using the 3M 1870 Respirator

The 3M 1870 respirator offers numerous benefits over traditional N95 respirators. Firstly, its electrostatically charged filter media captures a wider range of airborne particles, including those that are smaller than 0.3 microns. This means that healthcare workers using the 3M 1870 respirator are better protected against airborne infectious agents, including the COVID-19 virus.

Secondly, the respirator's unique design ensures a tight seal that prevents air from leaking in through the sides. This means that healthcare workers can breathe easier and with less resistance, reducing the potential for discomfort and fatigue during extended use.

Finally, the 3M 1870 respirator is easy to use and transport, making it ideal for healthcare workers who need to move between patients quickly. Its flat-fold design also makes it easy to store in a pocket or bag when not in use.

Comparison with Other Respirators in the Market

There are several other respiratory protective devices on the market, including traditional N95 respirators and powered air-purifying respirators (PAPRs). While these devices offer some level of protection, they also have their limitations.

Traditional N95 respirators often have an uncomfortable fit that can cause discomfort and fatigue during extended use.
They are also not suitable for healthcare workers with facial hair or other facial features that prevent a tight seal.

PAPRs, on the other hand, are bulkier and require a
power source, making them less convenient for healthcare workers who need to move quickly between patients. They also require regular maintenance and cleaning, which can be time-consuming and costly.

The 3M 1870 respirator offers a unique combination of superior protection and comfort, making it an ideal choice for healthcare workers. Its lightweight construction, adjustable noseclip, and soft inner lining ensure maximum comfort during extended use, while its electrostatically charged filter media captures a wider range of airborne particles, including those that may contain the COVID-19 virus.

Testimonials from Healthcare Professionals Who Have Used the 3M 1870Respirator

Healthcare professionals who have used the 3M 1870
respirator have praised its superior protection and comfort. Many have reported that the respirator provides a better fit and seal than traditional N95 respirators, reducing the potential for discomfort and fatigue during extended use.

One healthcare worker from Toronto, Ontario, said,

"The 3M 1870 respirator has been a game-changer for me. It's so much more comfortable than the traditional N95 respirator and provides better protection. I feel much more confident and secure when I'm wearing it."

Another healthcare worker from Vancouver, British Columbia, added,

"I love the 3M 1870 respirator. It fits so well and doesn't cause any irritation or discomfort, even when I wear it for hours at a time. I would definitely recommend it to other healthcare workers."

Future Developments and Improvements for Respiratory Protection in Healthcare

The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the need for
continued innovation and development in respiratory protective equipment. While the 3M 1870 respirator has proven to be a game-changer in the fight against the virus, there is still room for improvement.

One area that is currently being explored is the use of nanotechnology to create even more advanced filter media.

Nanofiber-based filters have been shown to be highly effective in capturing smaller particles, including viruses, and could potentially offer even greater protection for healthcare workers.

Additionally, researchers are looking at ways to improve the comfort and convenience of respiratory protective equipment, such as developing wearable technology that can monitor respiratory function and provide real-time feedback.

All companies that sell or import medical products in Canada must have a Medical Device Establishment Licence (MDEL). When you choose a company with an MDEL licence like eGrimes Direct, you know you are working with a company that is allowed to provide medical-grade masks and other devices.

Yes! 3M announced in 2020 that it would begin manufacturing N95 masks at its Brockville, Ontario factory. They began production on those masks in the spring of 2021, an effort that was heavily supported by the federal government.

Surgical masks are monitored by the Medical Devices Bureau of the Therapeutic Products Directorate for safety and effectiveness. That organization determines what can be called a surgical mask.

Surgical masks are designed to protect the wearer and patient from particles of fluid that may contain bacteria, viruses, and other pathogens such as saliva and blood spatter. Respirators, on the other hand, are designed to protect the wearer and patient from smaller airborne particles, including bacteria and viruses. Respirators are regulated by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health and are given a rating to show how effective they are at filtering out these particles. Respirators are designed to provide a sealed fit and are required to be fitted to the user to ensure proper usage. The 3M Aura 1870+ can be used as both, though it meets and surpasses the stringent requirement laid out by NIOSH, making it an excellent choice when you need N95 or better protection.

N95 is the rating that shows how effective a mask’s filtration is against these smaller particles and pathogens. An N95 rating by NIOSH means that the mask filters out at least 95% of airborne particles.

The 3M Aura 1870+ goes above and beyond NIOSH standards. According to ASTM standards, it has a 99% Bacterial Filtration Efficiency (BFE.)

Yes! Because it is considered a surgical mask and respirator, it is fluid-resistant and protects against both large and small particles of bodily fluid. It has the 160 mm Hg level of fluid resistance, the highest level of fluid resistance according to ASTM standards.

You should wear a respirator when working with dangerous substances, are exposed to infectious diseases, or the air is not safe to breathe due to smoke or other dangerous environmental elements. Even if you do not work in a medical or hazardous environment, it is always a good idea to have a few in case of an emergency.

Yes! All N95 masks are designed to greatly reduce the number of airborne pathogens you come in contact with through your mouth and nose. They also reduce the risk of spreading disease to those around you.

3M’s innovative filters were designed to make it easy to breathe in these masks. However, it is always a good idea to check with your healthcare provider if you have certain medical conditions and have been told not to wear a respirator for any reason.

If you are using a mask in a medical or industrial setting, it is essential to follow your company’s mask fitting protocol when fitting your mask. This ensures your safety and the safety of the people around you.

The straps on the 3M Aura 1870+ are designed to be durable and fit comfortably around your ears. They should not break as long as they are being used properly.

3M Aura 1870+ masks are designed for single use only and can be worn for up to eight hours. However, if they get fluid on them or become dirty or contaminated in any other way, it is a good idea to safely dispose of your old mask and get a new one.

Masks have a long shelf-life and can last up to five years after their manufacturing date. All 3M masks have an expiration date on the package for your peace of mind.

As of April 2021, the 1870+ masks are being packaged in bulk by 3M. As these masks are designed to be used in a professional setting and are designed to be used only once, this is the most cost-effective way to purchase. The decision to package the Aura masks in bulk also came about as a response to the ongoing demand for the product due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The Aura 1870+ bulk pack of 440 masks per case allowed 3M to speed up the packaging process and get the product into the hands of healthcare providers, first responders, fire fighters, and dental to name a few, in a shorter period of time.

At present the 3M Aura 1870+ are only being sold in bulk cases of 440.  Previously, they were packed in boxes of 120.  If you do find boxes of 120 for sale, be certain to check the expiry dates.  If you find 3M 1870+ available in other size packs, please be wary as they may not be authentic 3M product.
